Affiliate Revenue – How to Create an Affiliate Marketing Business

By Sean Ray Platinum Quality Author

On the internet, an affiliate revenue program is just another way of having an agent sell your goods or services or being an agent to sell theirs. Let’s look at both approaches.

Model 1 – Your affiliate revenue program. Let’s say you sell, cats collars. You have plain collars, fancy collars and jewel-studded collars. Cat fanciers love them! You have a web site, you advertise, you cultivate your own customer lists, but still, you’re not getting the market share you feel you deserve. So you decide to broaden your reach. You approach all the veterinarians in your state with an affiliate program. You offer then a certain fee for every lead or every order you receive through them. What’s more, you give them HTML code for a small advertisement on their sites, and you give them coded flyers to distribute to their patrons, and when those patrons click-through, you pay the veterinary practice a commission. Eventually, you sign up thousands of veterinary practices all over the world. Instead of just promoting your cat collars on your site, now, they are promote on sites everywhere!

Model 2 – You participate in other affiliate revenue programs. Now you have a huge market share of customers that regularly visit your site to check out the latest cat collar offerings. One day you realize that you could be selling all kinds of cat-oriented goodies. You hesitate, you like cat collars, you’re good at cat collars, you’re afraid of trying to diversify. But you’d still like to cash in on your success beyond selling cat collars. So you visit www.associateprograms.com or someone like them to find out if there are other firms trying to sell to cats. Sure enough, you locate three firms. The first sells, litter boxes, the second sells catnip toys, and the third sells a large line of scratching posts. You join their affiliate programs by putting ads for their products on your site and they pay you a commission for every lead or order that comes from it. Soon, because of your strong business in cat collars, you’ve opened up a new affiliate revenue dimension to your business!

The key to affiliate programs is this: they have to make sense to your visitor. Trying to cross sell staplers to people that are visiting to buy cat collars probably isn’t the best choice. Focus on products or services that are allied to yours and you can open up an entirely new revenue stream for your business.
